This year we are participating in Giving Tuesday, on November 28, 2023, a date that encourages people to do good, a global generosity movement that celebrates acts of giving. If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, we hope that you will consider a contribution to the Gulfport Senior Center Foundation this year for Giving Tuesday. Your support will help us continue our mission.

Since 2008, the Gulfport Senior Center Foundation has been dedicated to raising and distributing funds to support and enhance the health, educational, social and recreational programs and services of the Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center. This year, many of our projects are focused on raising funds for the Gulfport Senior Center Building Commitment Fund. The Foundation has made a commitment to raise $500,000 toward construction of the new Senior Center over the next five years.

In 2022, we installed a Memorial Ribbon of engraved pavers in the Gulfport Veterans Memorial Park. The official dedication was on Veterans Day, November 11, 2022. We also continued our new Performing Arts series in collaboration with the Gulfport Senior Center. These co-sponsored events will all support the Senior Center Capital Campaign Fund.

In 2021, the Foundation celebrated installation of a new ceramic mural at the Celebration Wall just outside the Senior Center. Gulfport artist Brenda McMahon created and installed the 20-foot-long mural and Foundation supporters Kathleen and Frank Cash contributed to installation of the artwork and new lighting. We also received a $5,000 grant from the Pinellas Community Foundation to make available free Hurricane Emergency Kits for low-income local seniors. With assistance from the Senior Center, 60 kits were distributed including many items recommended by FEMA for hurricane survival, including a hand cranked/solar radio, first aid kit, plastic sheeting & duct tape, flashlights, manual can openers and more.

During the COVID pandemic, generous donations from the community allowed the Foundation to establish an ongoing fund to keep Senior Center’s Food Pantry well stocked for our seniors in need.  When the Senior Center’s doors were closed during the pandemic, many classes and activities continued online. The Foundation pitched in by purchasing a video camera that is still used to continue the Center’s online presence. When the facility reopened, the Foundation purchased a touch free water fountain and bottle filling station that was installed in the hallway between the Senior Center and the Catherine Hickman Theater.

Thank you for your generous support!
